K-Chart™
K-Chart™: An Effective Tool for Post Graduate Research
INTRODUCTION
Research projects require proper planning in order to achieve the research objectives, within the stipulated time, at the least cost and resources possible. Proper planning should be done at both the macro and micro levels. Today, Gantt chart is a popular tool to assist in macro level planning whereby the general activities and the corresponding timelines are presented. Unfortunately the more detail matters such as the scope under study, the problems to be solved, the methodologies used and the expected results can not be sufficiently provided by Gantt Chart and other existing tools. These are the problems generally faced by researchers and graduate students.
K-Chart™ is a new tool used for planning and managing a research project. It uses Tree diagram to organize the whole Issues under study, the Methodology, and the expected Results. A K-Chart™ provides a more comprehensive view of the research project than a Gantt chart does. It is developed to support the micro level planning to the specific details required for smooth implementation of the research projects. It makes the literature review process more focused, the classification of results clearer, easier planning for publication and better management of man power and resources.
HONORABLE MENTION
Almarhum Professor Dr. Mohamad Khazani Bin Abdullah
Inventor K-Chart, Mentor, Former CEO SIGtech
Mohamad Khazani Abdullah obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, USA, 1990 and 1993 respectively, and a Ph.D in Physics from University Malaya, 1999. He was Professor at Engineering Faculty and former Chief Department for Computer and Communication System Engineering Department, University Putra Malaysia. His last position before retired early on 2011 is Deputy Dean, School of Graduate Studies, University Putra Malaysia. After retired from UPM, he served as Adjunct Professor at UNITEN.
He was awarded the National Young Scientist award in 2001 for contributions in the field of optical fiber communications. His other recognitions includes Best Design-Asia Pacific, Pittsburgh, 2004; Special Award, Brussels, 2005 and several gold medals. He has published more than 270 articles, produced 13 PhD and 30 Masters graduates. His finding on Optical Amplifier was reported in Photonics Spectra, a leading scientific magazine in the field of photonics. He has successfully filed 15 patents and commercialized various products and services including in international markets.
He left us all on May 2017, al-Fatihah.
